The coat of arms is the heraldic symbol representing the town at official events with relation to other institutions. It has its origins in an ancient heraldic shield, redefined according to the graphic standards used by all the towns and cities in Catalonia.
Description:
Truncated lozenge-shaped shield.
Top: gules, two crossed keys with their serrations facing outwards, the golden one, in a band, and the silver one, in a bar, emerging from behind a monastery purpure within a bordure argent.
Bottom: four pales gules.
Crest: a crown depicting the city walls.
This shield replaced the one that had been used since 1977, and was approved during a plenary session of the Municipal Council on 19th February 2001. The Catalan government gave its consent to this decision in a resolution dated 25th April 2001 (DOGC 3386, 11th May 2001).
